Medical Waste Solidification

Medical waste generated by healthcare facilities contains infectious materials and bodily fluids such as blood and other contaminants. Technologically advanced absorbent polymers in medical waste solidification applications provide physician’s offices, hospitals, dental practices, laboratories, medical research facilities, veterinary clinics, and other healthcare facilities a safe medical waste disposal method. The healthcare industry produces a wide variety of waste including infectious fluids, radiotherapy and lab research liquid, pathological fluids, pharmaceutical fluids, chemical liquids, genotoxic waste, and non-regulated medical waste.

MediSAP™ Superabsorbent Polymers

Surgical Suction Canister

The properties of blood and medical waste are complicated, and it is often difficult to effectively bind these types of liquids due to high viscosities and the frequent presence of proteinaceous matter.

The MediSAP™ superabsorbent polymers are prepared by a unique chemical process of emulsion polymerization whereby the final product is made of tiny spherical particles that — when viewed under an SEM microscope — contain a myriad of channels.  These channels provide a large particulate void volume and a means by which water and large molecules can be rapidly absorbed.

Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of MediSAP™ particles:

Many consider medical waste a potentially contaminated byproduct of medical research, healthcare activity, or treatment. Unless managed properly, exposure to medical waste can cause serious health risks for healthcare employees, waste workers, and the public. Improperly treated waste can result in exposure to microorganisms, poisoning, radiation, and pollution. Medical waste sent to landfills can contaminate the environment and drinking water.

Benefits of MediSAP™ Superabsorbent Polymers

Waste treatment and removal costs are determined by weight and volume.  M² Polymer Technologies offers an advanced, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible solution for medical waste management. Medical waste uses of absorbent polymers osmose water and molecules in waste, condensing the contaminated fluids into a solid. Our MediSAP™ medical industry super absorbent polymers’ medical application will neutralize and absorb hazardous medical waste.
